My wallet won't connect
Quickest fix
Section titled “Quickest fix”- Reload taoswap.org and let the page finish loading.
- Click Connect Wallet at the top right.
- Under Browser Extensions, choose your wallet, then approve the request your extension shows. If nothing appears, click the extension’s icon in your browser’s toolbar: the request often waits there.
- If you use Taoswap’s built-in wallet instead, choose Unlock Wallet and enter its password.
If your wallet still doesn’t connect, find your case below. To set up a wallet from the start, see Connect a wallet.
The extension’s request is waiting
Section titled “The extension’s request is waiting”Your extension asks you to allow taoswap.org before it shares an account, and Taoswap waits for that answer. After a short wait it shows “Extension authorization timed out. Please check the extension popup.”
- Open the extension from your browser’s toolbar and approve the request.
- Click your wallet again in Connect Wallet.
If you refused the request once, the extension may keep refusing without asking. Open its list of connected websites and allow taoswap.org.
The extension shares no Bittensor account
Section titled “The extension shares no Bittensor account”Taoswap lists the Bittensor accounts your extension shares with taoswap.org. It leaves out Ethereum accounts (addresses that start with 0x), which cannot sign on Bittensor. When no Bittensor account is shared, the window closes and the header still shows Connect Wallet.
- Open your extension and check that it holds a Bittensor account. A Bittensor address starts with
5. - In the extension’s list of connected websites, give taoswap.org access to that account.
- Reload Taoswap and connect again.
Your wallet isn’t in the list
Section titled “Your wallet isn’t in the list”The list shows only the extensions your browser makes available to the page. When it finds none, it suggests Talisman, Polkadot.js and Crucible, each with an Install link.
Taoswap works with these extensions: Talisman, Polkadot.js, Crucible, SubWallet, TaoStats and TAO.com.
- Check that the extension is installed and turned on in the browser you are using, and that it may run on taoswap.org.
- Reload the page. An extension that starts after the page loads shows up after a reload.
Install a wallet only from the Install links in that list or from the wallet’s own website. See Is this really Taoswap?
You’re on a phone or in a narrow window
Section titled “You’re on a phone or in a narrow window”Phone browsers cannot run extensions, so on a small screen the list hides Browser Extensions and says “Browser extensions are not available on mobile. Use the built-in wallet instead.” You have three options:
- Use the built-in wallet: under Built-in Wallet, choose Create New Wallet or Import Seed Phrase.
- In a wallet app’s own browser, tap Using a dApp browser? Show extensions.
- On a computer, make the window wider: a narrow window hides the extensions too.
The built-in wallet asks for its password
Section titled “The built-in wallet asks for its password”The built-in wallet never connects on its own. After a reload, the header shows Unlock Wallet until you enter its password. It also locks after a period without activity, which you choose under Lock After Inactivity in Manage Accounts (in the menu of your account at the top right). Locking it in one tab locks your other Taoswap tabs.
- Several wrong passwords in a row make you wait before the next try. The message says how long.
- If you forgot the password, Forgot password? Reset wallet deletes the wallet from this device. Your funds stay on chain, and you need your seed phrase to reach them again: choose Import Seed Phrase and set a new password.
The built-in wallet has disappeared
Section titled “The built-in wallet has disappeared”The built-in wallet lives in the browser where you created it, encrypted with your password. Another browser, another device or a private window doesn’t have it, and clearing the site’s data deletes it. On an iPhone or iPad, a Safari tab erases it after 7 days without a visit, while Taoswap added to the Home Screen keeps it.
To get it back, choose Import Seed Phrase and enter your seed phrase. Your funds were never in the browser: they stay on chain.
The extension disconnected
Section titled “The extension disconnected”After an extension updates or restarts, Taoswap may say “Extension disconnected. Please refresh the page or re-enable the extension.” Reload the page, and turn the extension back on if your browser switched it off.
Taoswap is open inside another page
Section titled “Taoswap is open inside another page”Extensions sign only for a page open in its own tab. Inside a new-tab dashboard or another site, signing fails with “Extension wallets cannot sign from this context. Open taoswap.org in a normal browser tab.” Open taoswap.org in a normal tab.
You’re connected to the wrong account
Section titled “You’re connected to the wrong account”Click your account at the top right. The menu lists every account your wallet shares: choose the one you want. Change Wallet switches to another wallet, and Disconnect ends the connection.
What to send when you ask for help
Section titled “What to send when you ask for help”- Your browser and its version, and whether you use a computer or a phone.
- Your wallet and its version.
- The exact message Taoswap shows, or a screenshot of it.
- Your public address, if Taoswap shows it.
Never send your seed phrase or your wallet password to anyone. Then contact support.
