What is Taoswap

Taoswap is the home of Bittensor subnet trading. In one app you swap TAO for subnet tokens, place limit orders, stake with validators and follow your portfolio.

Taoswap is non-custodial: it never takes possession or control of your funds. Every trade needs your signature, given in your own wallet.

TAO is the token of the Bittensor network. The network is divided into subnets, each with a number and its own token, called alpha. A subnet’s alpha trades against TAO in that subnet’s pool, which sets its price in TAO.

When you buy alpha, the chain stakes it with a validator, and you hold it as stake on your coldkey, the address of your wallet. Root is the special subnet where TAO is staked one for one, without a pool.

The glossary defines these terms.

  • Swap TAO for alpha, alpha for TAO, or one subnet’s alpha for another’s. See Your first swap.
  • Spot, in the Trade menu, places market orders and limit orders that wait for your price.
  • Stake with the validator of your choice, on a subnet or on root. See Staking and validators.
  • Portfolio shows your balances, positions and their history. See Portfolio.
  • Subnets lists every subnet with its price and figures, and Explore opens the chain’s Validators, Accounts, Transactions and Blocks.
  • Tools add Smart Actions, to allocate or rebalance across subnets in one transaction, Multi-chart, Compare Subnets, and Owner / Validators for subnet owners and validators.

Taoswap runs on the Bittensor mainnet, called Finney. It connects to a public node and switches to another one if that node fails. You can pick the node yourself on Network status.

To try things without real funds, the Testnet Faucet gives free testnet TAO.

Taoswap charges no platform fee. You pay the Bittensor network fee, which the form estimates before you sign, and the pool’s swap fee, already inside the quote. See Fees.
