Fees

Taoswap charges no platform fee. Everything you pay is charged by the Bittensor chain itself: a network fee for each transaction, and a pool fee on each swap through a subnet’s pool.

Every transaction on Bittensor pays a network fee in TAO. Before you sign, the swap form shows its estimate, quoted by the chain for that exact transaction.

  • The fee comes out of your free TAO, so keep a little of it. Keep in free balance, in Swap Settings, sets how much TAO MAX leaves in your wallet: 0.1 τ by default.
  • A transaction that fails still pays its fee, for example a swap the chain refuses because the price moved past your slippage tolerance.
  • Rejecting a request in your wallet costs nothing: nothing is sent.

Each subnet’s pool takes a fee on the amount you put in. The rate is set on chain for each subnet, and the app reads it live. The chain’s default rate is about 0.05%.

Swap Pool fee
TAO to a subnet’s alpha The pool of the subnet you buy
A subnet’s alpha to TAO The pool of the subnet you sell
One subnet’s alpha to another’s Once, on the subnet you sell
TAO to Staked TAO, and back None
Stake moved to another validator, same subnet None

The pool fee has no line of its own. It is already inside You receive and inside the price impact.

  • MEV Shield (Relay, 1 signature) adds nothing for you: Taoswap pays the relay’s transaction fee.
  • MEV Shield (Self-Custody, 2 signatures) adds a second, smaller network fee for the encrypted envelope. The estimate on the form includes it.

See MEV Shield.

  • Placing an order is free: you sign a message, not a transaction.
  • Taoswap takes no fee on limit orders. The fill is a swap through the pool, so the pool fee applies, and Taoswap’s executor pays its network fee.
  • The executor sends a limit buy only while your free TAO covers its amount plus 0.01 τ.
  • Cancelling is free. Cancelling on chain instead costs a network fee under 0.0001 τ.

See Limit orders.

Claiming your root staking rewards costs a network fee for each validator you claim from, taken from your free TAO. The Root Staking dialog shows it in the Claim fee column. See Staking and validators.

Validators keep a commission, their take, out of the rewards of the stake they hold. It is not a trade fee, and it does not show in the quote. The Validators list shows it in its FEES column, and a subnet’s validators table in its Take column.

The chain refuses a stake or a swap worth less than 0.002 τ, plus the pool fee on it. The swap button then reads Minimum 0.002 τ per operation. Selling a whole position to TAO is exempt.
